Fixing Incorrect Front and Rear Spacing
You may receive an email stating that your audio files have failed to meet our audio specifications for front and rear spacing. Our partners require 1 to 5 seconds of silence at the beginning and end of each audio track.
Please note that silence and room tone are two different things. Room tone is the ambient noise of the room you’re recording in. Silence is the absence of any sound. Follow the instructions below, or watch the YouTube tutorial to fix your audio tracks.
-
Open Audacity: If you haven't already, download and install Audacity from the official website (https://www.audacityteam.org/). Launch Audacity once it's installed.
-
Import Your Audio File: Click on "File" in the top menu and select "Open" to import the audio file you want to edit.
-
Select the Track: In Audacity, each audio track appears as a separate waveform. Click on the track you want to edit to select it. If your audio has multiple tracks, repeat this process for each track individually.
-
Add Silence at the Beginning:
- To add silence at the beginning of the track, place the cursor at the very beginning of the track (position 0:00) by clicking in the timeline, or pressing the J key on your keyboard.
- Go to the "Generate" menu and select "Silence."
-
Set the Duration of the Silence: In the "Silence Generator" dialog that appears, you can specify the duration of the silence you want to add. Enter a value between 1 and 5 seconds in the "Duration" field.
-
Add Silence at the End:
- To add silence at the end of the track, place the cursor at the very end of the track (the desired endpoint) by clicking in the timeline, or pressing the K key on your keyboard.
- Go to the "Generate" menu again and select "Silence."
- Set the same duration for the silence as you did in step 5.
-
Repeat for Other Tracks: If you have multiple tracks in your audio file, repeat steps 3 to 6 for each track to add the required amount of silence at the beginning and end.
-
Export Your Edited Audio: Once you've added the silence to all the tracks and you're satisfied with the result, you can export the edited audio by clicking "File" > "Export" and choose the appropriate export settings.
